What is the recommended dosing for Mounjaro?

Mounjaro, Wegovy, and Ozempic are medications used to support weight loss and/or manage type 2 diabetes, but they differ in their active ingredients, mechanisms of action, and specific approvals.

Mounjaro: Contains Tirzepatide, a dual-action medication targeting GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) and GIP (glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide) receptors. Clinical trials suggest it may lead to greater weight loss compared to Semaglutide-based treatments (i.e. Wegovy/Ozempic) due to its dual mechanism.

Mounjaro is available in 2.5mg, 5mg, 7.5mg, 10mg, 12.5mg, and 15mg doses, provided in KwikPen self-injecting pen devices.

Wegovy/Ozempic: Contains Semaglutide, which targets only the GLP-1 receptor. Wegovy and Ozempic are 2 different brands of the same medicine manufactured by Novo-Nordisk and they are licensed for weight management and type-2 diabetes respectively. 

Both brands come as 0.25mg, 0.5mg, 1mg but only Wegovy comes in 1.7mg and 2.4mg because the maximum dose for weight management is higher. Both brands are available in FlexTouch self-injection pen devices.
