Naramig is a branded medicine containing naratriptan. Naratriptan belongs to the triptan group of medicines and is used for the acute treatment of migraine attacks in adults.

Naratriptan acts on serotonin receptors involved in migraine attacks. It helps relieve migraine symptoms by targeting migraine-related changes in blood vessels and pain signalling.

Naratriptan is a licensed treatment for acute migraine attacks. It is not suitable for every patient, so our prescribing and pharmacy team will review your previous diagnosis, symptoms and medical history before supply.

Naramig is the branded version and naratriptan is the active ingredient. Generic naratriptan contains the same active ingredient and is used for the same purpose, although appearance, packaging, manufacturer and price may differ.

Naramig vs generic Naratriptan: what is the difference?

Generic medicines are usually cheaper because they are made after the original brand’s patent protection has ended. They still need to meet regulatory standards for quality, safety and effectiveness.

Why is generic Naratriptan cheaper than branded Naramig?

The usual adult dose of Naramig is one 2.5mg tablet. If migraine symptoms return after initially improving, a second dose may be taken after at least 4 hours. 

The total dose should not exceed two 2.5mg tablets in 24 hours. Always follow your prescriber’s instructions.

No. Naratriptan is used to treat migraine attacks when they happen. It should not be used as a migraine prevention treatment.

Is Naratriptan used to prevent migraines?

Possible side effects include dizziness, drowsiness, tiredness, nausea, tingling, flushing, or sensations of heaviness, pressure or tightness. Seek urgent medical advice if symptoms are severe, unusual, or suggest an allergic reaction or heart-related problem.
