The bleeding during menstruation, commonly known as period, is due to the natural hormonal changes that occur in a woman's body during the menstruation cycle. Taking Norethisterone is like providing the body with a natural hormone that puts it into a phase of the menstrual cycle where there is no bleeding. Once you  stop taking Norethisterone, your period will usually start within 3 days.     

How does Norethisterone help delaying my period?

There is good evidence on safety and effectiveness of Norethisterone in delaying periods. Norethisterone also has many uses and there are many clinical studies to confirm the safety and effectiveness of Norethisterone as a medicine. See details of how it works in the section above.

Dose instructions for delaying your period (menstrual cycle bleed):

Take One 5mg tablet 3 times a day. You need to start taking the tablets 3 days before your period is due to start. Your period will usually start within 3 days of finishing the tablets.

If you intend to delay your period for longer than 28 days, please seek advice from your general practitioner or a gynaecologist.
