Vardenafil (Levitra) is similar to its counterpart’s Sildenafil (Viagra) and Tadalafil (Cialis), although newer, it is an inhibitor of the enzyme phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE-5). Preventing the activity of this enzyme can increase the blood flow to the penis that help you to both achieve and sustain an erection. Vardenafil is fast acting and can become effective 25 minutes after a dose and the effect lasts for up to about 5 hours. 

How does Vardenafil help my erectile dysfunction?

Vardenafil has been shown to an effective treatment option for ED irrespective of the cause. Two thirds of users were successful in maintaining an erection, while up to 80% of people achieved successful penetration.

For most patients the recommended dose of vardenafil is 10mg (taken orally), as required, 25 to 60 minutes before sexual activity. This can be increased to 20mg or decreased to 5mg depending on side effects and efficacy. No more than one tablet should be taken each day. This medicine can be taken with or without food. 

Possible side effects associated with Vardenafil use include:

·      Very common (1 in 10 people) – headache

·      Common (1 in 10 – 1 in 100 people) – dizziness, flushing, blocked or runny nose – indigestion

·      Uncommon (1 in 100 – 1 in 1,000 people) - swelling of skin and mucous tissue including swollen face, lips or throat, sleep disorder, numbness and impaired perception of touch, sleepiness, effects on vision, redness of the eye, effects on colour vision, eye pain and discomfort, light sensitivity, ringing in the ears, vertigo, fast heart beat or pounding heart, breathlessness, stuffy nose, acid reflux, gastritis, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, vomiting, feeling sick (feeling sick (nausea) ), dry mouth, raised levels of liver enzymes in your blood, rash, reddened skin, back or muscle pain, increase in blood of a muscle enzyme (creatine phosphokinase), muscle stiffness, prolonged erections, malaise
