Smoker become addicted to nicotine in tobacco smoke. Nicotine works on the nervous system, where it binds to receptors and triggers the release of dopamine, a chemical messenger which plays a part in the pleasure derived from smoking.

Champix binds to the same receptors as the nicotine in tobacco smoke so Champix suppresses the cravings and withdrawal symptoms of quitting smoking. Champix also reduces the pleasure from smoking because it partially occupies the nicotinic receptors so the absorbed nicotine from the smoking can not work to give the smoker much pleasure.    

How does Champix help with quitting smoking?

The studies have shown the benefits of Champix for quitting smoking. Champix also showed superiority to other medicines for smoking cessation such as Bupropion. Also the patients who used Champix tend to remain smoke free for longer (at 40 weeks) compared to other medicines used for this purpose.
